David Warner deserves a special mention for the decision of the season made yesterday. It can look good when you look after a day, but considering the context of the stage, if that decision had backfired him, he would have ended up in a pool of criticism.
I am taking about his decision to bat in a Chinnasamy stadium in a game against RCB. No captain would have called for it as RCB established themselves as a marauding chasers in the IPL and Kohli is magnanimous in chasing. Other than him, RCB had AB De Villiers and Chris Gayle in their ranks who can finish the game single handedly. The overall records too is very much one sided to the teams chasing this season.
His bold move proved the amount of trust he had on his bowlers. The unpredictability of this decision became evident when Kohli told that he would have snubbed the toss if he knew Warner will wish to bat first as RCB had just one thought in mind and it is to chase.
Warner’s decision might have had the big occasion in the back of his mind. It is always better to bat first in the finals is a myth that had proved successful throughout the years. However with the kind of scenario in which Warner made the call, the decision looked more instinctive.
At the end of the day, his decision too is one of the important reasons for the Sunrisers Hyderabad to clinch the title. All credits go to Warner and their bowling line up for their maiden IPL title.
